about me.
When I made my first selfbow, I experienced how much man and nature become one in it. For me, making a bow is a journey through time, through human history, and into myself.
Working on a bow brings together mind, body, and all the human senses. For me, every finished selfbow represents a positive attitude to life, joy, and personal development.
I learned the craft of bowmaking from select Austrian, German, and Japanese master bowyers like Mich Wolf, Konrad Vögele, Felix and Kanjuro Shibata XXI. I owe a great deal of valuable experience to the legendary American master bowyer Paul Comstock, author of "The Bent Stick" and co-author of the "Traditional Bowyers Bible".
For 16 years, I have been lovingly crafting handmade bows from all historical eras, cultures, and continents. I use almost exclusively natural materials. The wood for these bows comes primarily from Austria's meadows and forests.
I completed an archery instructor training course with the Austrian Archery Federation. The knowledge I gained helps me practice my craft.
I also use digital methods to research historical bows, particularly bows from prehistoric times. In doing so, I uncover long-lost knowledge about construction methods of bow types from the Neolithic, Copper, Bronze, and Iron Ages. This not only provides insights into the field of archaeology: the work represents a journey a direct connection to prehistoric personalities and working methods.
From time to time I hold a bowcarving course at my Sparrow Bows archery in the Waldviertel region. I also make custom longbows for archers.
