Turning a piece of wood into a bow engages the mind, body, and all the human senses. For me, this process of transformation symbolizes a zest for life and personal growth. When you’ve made a wooden bow yourself and then shoot it for the first time, it’s quite possible that you’ll discover a new side of yourself in the process.
The Sparrow Bows Archery is located in a beautiful part of Austria, with stunning views near the border with the Czech Republic - in the town of Kautzen.
On the first day of the course, we’ll discuss arrow flight and bow mechanics. After that, we’ll select a blank that’s right for you. We’ll also choose a suitable bow design. Then we’ll begin shaping the basic form.
After that, your blank will be slowly and evenly bent to help it adjust to its new life as a bow. On the third day, you’ll shoot your bow with arrows you made yourself, and you’ll finish shaping the bow and grip to your liking.
You can stay here at our old farmhouse or book accommodations in the area. If you'd like, we can provide you with breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner.
The maximum number of participants is currently 3 people. Private lessons are also available. A beginner’s course lasts three days and usually takes place from Thursday evening or Friday morning through Sunday afternoon.
